From this summer, self-driving shuttles will operate in the Fribourg commune of Marly. The project partners plan two phases of operation of the automated line: at a rate of 7 minutes during peak hours and on demand the rest of the time.
Automation in the town of Marly
From the 18th of August, the Fribourg Public Transport (TPF) will introduce self-driving shuttles in the municipality of Marly. These vehicles will allow commuters to connect the Marly Innovation Center (MIC) to the rest of the TPF lines. The pilot project, which includes the MIC, the municipality of Marly, the agglomeration and the State of Fribourg, makes it possible to test the last kilometer service in the short term. The partners are planning two phases of operation of the automated line. During peak hours, the shuttle will operate at the same speed as Line 1, i.e. every 7 minutes with four possible stops. During off-peak hours, it will be available on demand, as well as on weekends. "That way, it is able to adapt to real demand and guarantee its autonomy for nearly 8 hours," the statement said.
French manufacturer Navya
Like the models circulating in the city of Sion, the electric shuttles come from the French manufacturer Navya, and will integrate the solution of the Lausanne start-up Bestmile for their operation. Limited to a cruising speed of 25 km/h, the vehicle can accommodate 11 passengers. The TPFs specify that a bellboy will ensure safety and accessibility for people with reduced mobility. To facilitate the deployment of the shuttle, facilities are planned in the town of Marly. The single TPF operations center will manage the shuttle and integrate it into the network.
