Although she developed the spin-off of Hewlett-Packard Company to create HP Inc. and HPE in 2015, the President and CEO of HPE will step down and be replaced by Antonio Neri, current CEO of HPE in February 2018.
A brilliant career path
Margaret Cushing Whitman (known as Meg Whitman) graduated from Princeton University and earned an MBA at Harvard in 1978. A year later, she joined the Procter & Gamble team and in 1989 became Vice President of Marketing for the Walt Disney Group.
In 1997, she took over the management of eBay, a human-sized company employing around 30 people, and enabled the company to become a multinational employing more than 15,000 people worldwide to date.
At the same time, she became a member of the management committee of Procter & Gamble and Dreamworks Studios.
Seven years later, she was named the "World's First Businesswoman" by the American magazine Fortune. Then in 2011, HP appointed her as CEO of Hewlett-Packard.
While completing the HP spin-off to create two separate companies, Whitman has also helped grow the company through strategic acquisitions such as Aruba, SGI, Simplivity and Nimble Storage.
Antonio Neri, standing in
Appointed president of Hewlett Packard Enterprise in June 2017, Antonio Neri has had a 23-year career at HP in a variety of leadership roles. His goal is to develop technology solutions and services that simplify hybrid computing and stimulate intelligent edge in businesses.
Effective February 1, 2018, he will become the new CEO of HPE.
An equally exciting journey
Antonio Neri has been involved in many innovations at HP over the course of his career. He introduced HPE Apollo, a high-performance computing platform; HPE Superdome X, a modular and scalable in-memory computing platform; HPE Synergy, the world's first composable infrastructure platform; and HPE Moonshot, the first software-defined platform.
Passing the torch to a new generation
"I am incredibly proud of everything we have accomplished since I joined HP in 2011," said Meg Whitman in the official release. Today, HP consists of four leading companies in their fields, all well positioned to win the battle in their respective markets. This is the right time for Antonio and a new generation of leaders to take over the reins of HPE. I am extremely confident that they will continue to build a great company that will prosper well in the future."
