With no less than fifteen laser and inkjet printers and multifunction devices for the corporate world, HP is relaunching its print business a few months after its split into two autonomous entities.
Five months after the split of HP into two entities, HP Inc (PC & print) is launching the first printing solutions - about fifteen - of its new era. After a very difficult first quarter 2016 - revenue down 12% for the year ended on the 31st of January - the Palo Alto firm plans to "regain the energy of a start-up with the experience of a Top 500 company", said David Ryan, EMEA general manager at HP in charge of the printing business.
"The de-merger allows us to develop products and especially solutions to support digitization projects in companies [...] Our vision at HP is to create technology that makes life better everywhere.
New printing solutions
Returning to the small world of printing, HP presented in Lisbon - at an EMEA event bringing together partners, analysts and journalists (about 700 people) - three series of solutions dedicated to printing, namely LaserJet Pro M, OfficeJet Pro 8700 and PageWide Pro and Enterprise. A laser platform based on JetInteligence technology and two other inkjets. In a speech, Mike Heys, Vice President in charge of printing solutions at IDC Europe, recalled that office inkjet printers had successfully re-conquered companies with a 25% penetration rate. This is the result of the combined efforts of HP and Epson, which for several years have been developing reliable, durable and fast models specially designed for professionals, borrowing from the laser model for administrative functions.
OfficeJet pro reviews
With its latest Officejet Pro A4, HP has reviewed such things as paper flow, exterior design and touchscreen screen size (from 6.75 to 10.9 cm). Print speeds start at 22/18 ppm (black and color in desktop mode) for the entry-level 8710 (199€ HT) and rise to 24/20 ppm for better equipped 8720/8730/8740 models (e.g. 250-500 sheet tray) for a price between 299 and 349€ HT. Compared to the previous generation (the Officejet Pro 276dw MFP), the all-in-one OfficeJet Pro 8740 goes 20% faster in black and white and 33% faster in color. Printing PDF, Word and PowerPoint documents is also possible from a USB key, while the 8710 supported the only PDF format. The capacity of the ink cartridges has been increased to a maximum of 3000 pages in black and 1600 in color compared to 2300 and 1500 previously.
